Water Supply

The Water Supply Work Team responsibilities included determining historic water use patterns, describing the available water resources, and projecting demands for future water use.  Surface and ground water resources will be addressed.

The team elected to use background information describing the basin and its water resources gleaned from the Red River Water Resource Council's "A River Runs North" publication. This information was extensively reviewed and approved by all jurisdictions prior to its being published.  Material from the book has been supplemented with more specific information including hydrographs showing the period of record for several key tributary streams and points along the Red River.  A discussion is included concerning the variable nature of flows as an outcome of  climatic swings from wet to dry to wet.  Groundwater geographic availability, potential supply, and water quality factors are mapped and discussed in the final report.
