Pembina River Basin Advisory Board

The Pembina River Basin Advisory Board (PRBAB) is made up of local leaders from Manitoba and North Dakota who meet regularly to work together on land and water issues affecting the Pembina River Basin.  The PRBAB’s purpose is to develop and cause to be implemented a comprehensive water management plan for the PembinaRiver Basin and to facilitate and pursue the resolution of inter-jurisdictional issues.  The Board is currently in the process of reviewing and updating the Pembina River Basin Watershed Management Plan.

This past year there was a tour and discussions that looked at the border flooding problems.  The RRBC helped facilitate the event and PRBAB joined the International Joint Commission (IJC) and provincial, state, and federal agencies that work with models and flood management issues on the border. River flows, breakouts, impacts of road and railroad bridges, and various model approaches were all part of the discussion.  From this emerged consensus, communication, and strategies for what data to use in the various modeling efforts.
