The Red River Basin Commission's Annual Land and Water International Summit Conference bring together leaders, partners, and stakeholders from across the Red River Basin to explore advancements in watershed stewardship, flood resilience, and integrated water management. For more than 40 years, this conference has served as a premier forum for collaboration, innovation, and shared learning throughout the basin, bringing together local, state, provincial, tribal, federal, nonprofit, academic, and private sector partners committed to the future of the Red River Basin.
Commemorate, Celebrate,
and Reflect
This year's conference, located in Grand Forks, ND, commemorates the Flood of 1997 and gives opportunity to reflect on how far our communities have come. It will highlight the partnerships, projects, and policies that continue to strengthen and protect communities across the basin. Together, we will honor the past, celebrate the progress made in water management over the last three decades, and look ahead to the future of basin-wide resilience and stewardship.
2027 Keynote Speaker
Ed Schafer
Former Governor of North Dakota
Ed Schafer served as Governor of North Dakota from 1992 to 2000, including during the historic Red River Flood of 1997, when he played a key leadership role in coordinating the state’s response and recovery efforts alongside local, state, and federal partners. He later served as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 2008 to 2009. Remaining active in political and civic affairs, he continues to share insights on leadership, public policy, and community resilience. Throughout his career, he has championed rural development and cross-sector collaboration, bringing a unique perspective on governance, crisis management, and regional cooperation.

Water Quality Partnerships Workshop
As part of the 2027 RRBC Annual Conference, join us on January 19, 2027, at 9:00 am, for the Red River Basin Water Quality Partnerships Workshop. The workshop will feature presentations from partners highlighting water quality work across different jurisdictions in the Red River Basin, followed by a facilitated discussion focused on sharing ideas, experiences, and opportunities for collaboration.
